NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY AND REQUEST FOR COMMENTS
The United States Coast Guard announces the public availability
of the Expanded Training Program USCG Training Center Petaluma Environmental
Assessment (EA). Training Center (TRACEN) Petaluma is located on
804 acres, approximately seven miles west of Petaluma, California.
Coast Guard readiness is dependent upon properly equipping and
training its personnel. TRACEN Petaluma expects to expand its training
program to double its current size and will require the creation
of additional classroom space and student dormitories. The EA describes
four alternatives to meet future needs to train and lodge almost
500 additional students. The instructional staff would grow from
200 at present to 285 by the end of 2004.
The EA evaluates the environmental effects that may result from
implementation of the alternatives. Areas addressed include land
use, water resources, wastewater treatment, biological resources,
visual resources, air quality, noise, transportation, and socioeconomics.
Other environmental resources are not expected to be affected.
